While there have been rumors of an EcoBoost-powered Mustang ever since Ford coined the EcoBoost name, the company’s executives have been pretty mum on the subject. But at an event in conjunction with the first press preview day of the 2012 Detroit auto show, the company’s chief product man, Derrick Kuzak, acknowledged the existence of the turbo Mustang.
Said Kuzak, “Given the success we’ve had with EcoBoost across the lineup that we’ve talked about, it’s fair to assume that we will have an EcoBoost Mustang in the very near future.”
And that is all Kuzak is saying about that. Our guess is that the engine in question would be a four-cylinder version, similar to the 2.0-liter unit that will power the upcoming 247-hp Focus ST. If so, it would leave room for the current 305-hp, 3.7-liter V-6 to slot between the new turbocharged, direct-injected four and the 412-hp 5.0-liter V-8 (which will be upgraded to 420 hp for 2013). Earlier rumors indicated that the EcoBoost motor would be a larger displacement four-cylinder making more on the order of 300 hp. We’re reading Kuzak’s words to mean that the new engine option would appear within the next year or two.

Senner Tuning has unveiled their program for the famous Mercedes SLS AMG. It includes performance modifications and some improvement of the stance.
The new Gullwing is powered by the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in the world – AMG’s 6.2 liter beast with 571PS (420 kW) and 650Nm (479 lb-ft). It is boosted to 606PS (446 kW) and 690Nm (509 lb-ft). The results are thanks to a number of upgrades – an ECU re-map, optimized air-flow and new stainless steel sports exhaust system.
The sports coupe stands on enormous Corniche Vegas wheels – 9J x 20” with 255/30 R20 tires on the front axle and 11J x 20” with 285/30 R20 on the rear. The stance is further improved by a set of adjustable coilovers from KW. The price for these upgrades start at €19 500.

The Cadillac SRX enters 2012 wîth a greater combination of performance, technology and capability, building on the momentum of record-setting sales and more conquests from import owners in the mid-luxury crossover §egmènt. Retail sales were up 17.7 percent in the first half of 2011 – a notable feat considering 2010 sales were up more than 150 percent for the year.
A new, more powerful 3.6L V-6 headlines the changes for 2012 and becomes the sole engine offered in the SRX. It is rated at 308 horsepower (230 kW) wîth efficiency-enhancing features including direct injection and continuously variable valve timing. It also delivers 265 lb.-ft. of torque (359 Nm), wîth peak torque achieved at a low 2,400 rpm and continuing through 5,300 rpm, giving the SRX a greater feeling of acceleration from a standstill, at low speeds and when passing. The 3.6L is also E85 ethanol-capable.
The 3.6L is matched wîth the Hydra-Matic 6T70 six-speed automatic transmission, which features a driver-selectable Eco feature that alters the shift points for up to 1-mpg improved fuel economy in normal driving conditions.
Other enhancements to the 2012 SRX include standard Bluetooth phone connectivity on the Base model, a heated §teering wheel on the Luxury, Performance and Premium Collections and door lock switches on the driver and passenger door panels. The new model will continue to have door lock switches on the center console. Chrysler-Lancia CEO Saad Chebab told Autocar that there will be no Touring version of the redesigned Chrysler 300 built for Europe, saying that wagon sales in the U.S. are not robust enough to justify development costs for a five-door version of the platform. If Europe isn't getting a Chrysler wagon, we certainly aren't going to see a Dodge version here.

It's hard to know whether Chrysler's gamble of building an unashamedly old-fashioned, American-style sedan-big inside and out, rear-wheel drive, with the option of a honking V-8-will get buyers flocking into its showrooms, but the 300 is pretty sweet. Driving around Palm Springs in a 300C equipped with the bodacious 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 seemed appropriate, because this artificial oasis a couple of hours east of Los Angeles, with its endless golf courses and stylish mid-century architecture, reflects more of the optimism of the immediate postwar era than almost any other place in the United States. From the high-set driving position to the rumble of the V-8, the 300C is a throwback to the time when big was better, bigger was best, and no one had heard of Toyota.
American cars used to look distinctive, drive distinctively, and offer more for less. Sometime between the late 1960s and now, the ineptness (and arrogance) of the domestic auto industry, an oil crisis that was manna to import automakers, and changing consumer tastes led the major domestic automakers to build ersatz import cars rather than American ones.
The 300, though, actually looks like an American car. At 196.8 inches long and 74.1 inches wide, it's large enough to make the Mercedes-Benz E500 we brought along for comparative purposes seem like a waif. The 300 looks very distinctive on the road, glamorous even, with its baby Bentley proportions, lead-sled chop top, and showy details. If there's any American car that's going to appeal to the rap pack, this is it. In fact, 50 Cent already has shot a video with a 300C, tricked out with the 22-inch wheels that seem to be a prerequisite for hip-hop acceptability.

Kia's UVO has been rolled out to generally appreciative audiences, the head-unit system combining with your smartphone to provide a wide range of voice-command operation. Kia boffins have returned to the lab, though, to develop a second-gen UVO interface that doesn't require your phone to be fully functional.
Sounding like an extension of Windows Phone 7 (UVO uses Windows software as a base), Ward's Auto described its preview of UVO's next-gen as featuring "a screen that, like a tablet computer, lets the user choose from a series of icons and change screens by swiping a fingertip." The system will be fully voice controlled, and will able to download applications. A Kia rep said that UVO could access the information on a paired phone, but the smartphone connection would be optional.
The next generation is meant to be viable for all of Kia's international markets, whereas this first generation was developed specifically for the United States. From this initial report it sounds like it will provide a more comprehensive experience, which is good for everyone – but we wonder if it will still force you to choose between UVO and in-dash nav.

Our friends at PickupTrucks.com have just completed their "HD Hurt Locker" comparison test, in which the GMC Sierra 3500HD, Ford F-350 and Ram 3500 were put through quite a series of tests. PickupTrucks.com editor Mike Levine called it a "grueling showdown among industry heavyweights that included towing 19,000-pound fifth-wheel trailers up and over some of the most demanding grades in the United States."
After seven days of testing, Levine and the rest of the PickupTrucks.com crew found that General Motors' offering, the Sierra HD, was the most capable in this test, outperforming the Ford and Ram trucks.

The social networks have spoken: The Ford Mustang V6 Performance package will now be known as the Mayhem Mustang package.
Ford put out a call to its 1.4 million Facebook fans with the question, “What should we call the Mustang V6 Performance package?”
More than 3,000 submissions were made via Ford's Facebook page, and almost 6,700 users installed the “You Name It” app. The winning submission came from a fan in North Carolina, who won a three-year lease on the 2012 Ford Mustang V6.
The five names that received the most votes were selected, but Ford made the final decision. Each finalist was run through trademark, copyright and brand approvals to make sure the no toes were stepped on. The Mayhem name will be used on all of Ford's marketing and communication materials.
The package combines the base 305-hp engine with a 3.31 performance rear axle and Mustang GT-based suspension and braking parts. The Mayhem Mustang gets unique 19-inch wheels and Pirelli performance tires.
Other highlights of the package include:

At this years New York Auto Show Shelby American unveiled their most affordable post-title package to date, the Shelby GTS. Billed as the successor to the 2007-08 Shelby GT, the Shelby GTS package will be made available for the 2012 Mustang GT and 2012 Mustang V6 models with or without a supercharger. Shelby is hoping to attract younger buyers to their increasing lineup of vehicles which mostly attract older buyers.
The Shelby GTS post-title package includes some pretty impressive parts including a Ford Racing handling pack, Borla exhaust, Shelby/Baer brakes, deep draw hood, Shelby LeMans stripes and the obligatory ‘Shelby GTS’ bages. Prices for the Shelby GTS packages start at $9,900 which is not cheap but at least its affordable for some who desire the Shelby name.

Ever since Ford introduced the 3.7L V6 and 5.0L V8 Mustang for the 2011 model year, the Shelby research and development team has been secretly developing the GTS package. Once the Shelby GT350 was finalized in both coupe and convertible versions, the skunkworks team accelerated the project. Working with partners at Ford Racing, Borla and Baer, Shelby American enhanced the car’s suspension, strengthened the braking and coaxed more power out of the engine.
“The V6 Mustang is a particularly good platform for the Shelby GTS,” noted Shelby American vice president of operations Gary Patterson. “It’s even lighter and more nimble than the GT. And the V6 Shelby GTS makes about as much horsepower as the V8 in the Ford Shelby GT, but with better fuel economy at a lower price.”
The post-title package starts at $9,995.00, not including the base car. Superchargers and other options are available that allow buyers to personalize their dream Shelby. A limited number of the Shelby GTS will be built with reservations starting April 21; production is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Image via WikipediaIt’s called an axiom for a reason. You can’t have it all, and we can prove it. Our evidence? The 2011 Honda CR-Z. Until now, we held out hope that some car company would find a way to deliver everything we wanted in an environmentally responsible sporty coupe, from great fuel economy to great handling. But the CR-Z falls short of satisfying us on either end of the
spectrum—it’s a wash for both hypermilers and for the ardent believers still waiting on the second coming of the beloved CRX.
As it’s closely related to the 2010 Honda Insight five-door hatchback, Honda is careful to pitch the CR-Z as a hybrid sports coupe, and to put a little distance between its illustrious hot-hatch history. At the same time, on purpose, it invokes the spirit of the CRX with those initials. That’s a problem--the world-saving, 2,600-pound, 122-horsepower CR-Z just doesn’t tap enough of the CRX’s handling magic or simple aesthetic to warrant the name.
The CR-Z might have been better off under a different name. It’s reasonably quick and gets very good gas mileage for a sporty car. The CRX was a halo car for the whole Honda brand; the CR-Z feels just like a two-door Insight with less cohesive looks and worse gas mileage. If this were an Insight Sport, it might be perceived very differently.

Still, Honda’s convinced it’ll find 15,000 fans eager to be the pioneers in the “hybrid enthusiast” segment. With a base price under $20,000 and reaching to about $24,000 for a fully tricked-out version, the new CR-Z will be toughing it out against iconic machines like the base MINI Cooper and the VW New Beetle—and even less compelling coupes like the anonymous Scion tC and the thirsty Mitsubishi Eclipse.

We think it’s going to find its biggest dragon to slay in the tight 2011 Ford Fiesta, which matches its interior room, keeps seating for five, and outpaces it in highway fuel economy, even without any battery backup.

Dodge Charger Grilles. The Audi TT 3.2 Roadster has some lovely bits: the clutch and gearbox as smooth as silken tofu, the crisp interior stitched together with the skill of a Florentine tailor, and the harmonics of the V6 engine and exhaust, which is kind of alternative and indie with a garage band bite to it.

But – and the but would prevent me from handing over $75,750 for the price as tested TT – its exterior styling reminds me of the bugs found under flowerpots, and the driving position made me feel like a prairie dog popping out of a hole.

If you're my height – 5-foot-4 – it's one of those sit-low-and-peer-over-high-sills-and-hood cars. When the convertible top is up, there's a chunky blind spot made by the passenger seat and sides of the soft top, which expands if a passenger is included. Another blind spot occurs at the A-pillar-side mirror combo, wiping out a portion of the landscape.

If you are the sort with a torso that stretches like Silly Putty, then your head may be above the blockade.

This "low rider" seat position is by no means exclusive to the TT. I suffered it in the BMW Z4, the Mazda MX5, Hyundai Tiburon, Mitsubishi Eclipse and the Chrysler Crossfire. Luckily for me, the Porsche 911 provides perfect views all around (note to Santa).

Consequently, I never felt that soulful bonding of car and driver. I just couldn't quite tell where the four corners were on the TT.

However, it may be a dream car for lots of drivers – a top-down two-seater that's fast, nimble and sophisticated. The Audi press material, which had to have been written by a Booker Prize-winner, foams on about rigorous geometry resoluteness, and reworked elastokinematics (which is not a branch of Scientology).

While driving the TT, you can tinker with science by redirecting magnetic particles in the shock absorbers. This $1,700 option changes the suspension from whipped cream to S&M. I left it in whipped cream most of the time while driving in 905-POT-HOLE region.

The 3.2 L V6 produces bushels of power; the fine print says 250 hp. But it doesn't seem to be a car that needs flame-throwing thrust. Reviewers and bloggers around the universe seem to love the cheaper (starting at $46,900) 2.0 turbo just as much.

So while the TT is fully stoked for straight-ahead speed, it's on the twisty roads that it gets blissful, as the Quattro all-wheel hyperGRIPtonics (my hyperbole) glues the Roadster to the pavement.

Speed sensitive steering adapts to slithery movements so that the TT moves like a snake in the underbrush, and whiskering through the 6-speed, gear to gear, is tangible, magical joy. Big brakes keep any off-course animals from becoming part of the 100-mile diet.

At the start of your trip, you have to put the soft top down. It happens in 12 seconds by pressing a button. If the wind becomes worrisome, another button launches a mesh windscreen to manage the breezes. The week I had the TT, continuous rainstorms blew through, so the 12-second pop top was timely.

Audi always delivers a glamorously restrained interior. For $2,900, the Exclusive Line trim level added leather seats with contrasting trim and stitching. In my tester, the splashes of poppy red lifted the spirits of the basic black.

The seats in the TT are supportive and well-bolstered, and the cockpit feels roomy. After I adjusted the driving position, it did put the dead pedal in an awkward position, but the steering wheel, chunky and shaved flat at the bottom, is a dream. Dodge Charger Grilles.

The updates are modest, but extensive. On the outside, rear lights are the most obvious differentiator, though the headlamps are new too and they also utilise LED technology to give the car a distinctive appearance. Sharp sculpting on the bonnet combines with a more aggressive front bumper to give the 3 Series' face a sportier look. This is carried through to more distinctive profiling of the body sides and a new rear bumper.

Is it any good?

BMW hardly took one of the class leaders and made it worse than before, did they? The new 3 Series has been improved in most areas, and though gains are modest they count in a segment where the 3 Series is compared with other German prestige brands, as well as cheaper and better equipped alternatives such as Ford's Mondeo and the Honda Accord. Detail changes aside though, the 3 Series has always stood out as one of the best cars to drive of its size and BMW has improved on that too with a wider track aiding stability and cornering.Inside, the changes are even more subtle, adding up to new materials and colours, more use of chrome on the switchgear and modest updates to the controls and instruments themselves. The biggest news is the adoption of a completely revamped iDrive infotainment system. However, without iDrive fitted, the cockpit is quite plain, if very well put together.

The massive line-up is largely unchanged, though the 330d receives a new six-cylinder engine putting out 241bhp and 384lb.ft, which sees it knocking on the door of the formidable 335d. The new 330d also returns about 50mpg on the combined cycle and CO2 emissions of 152g/km is not at all bad when you realise that this version of the 3 Series hits 62mph in just 6.1 seconds and can top 155mph.

You'll have to sit tight for the moment, as BMW has not actually released pricing information, though we doubt there'll be a significant increase over the outgoing car. Best to hang on though until you size up the value of some of the tempting new options. Along with the slick new iDrive system for instance is the optional BMW ConnectedDrive feature, which allows Internet access via the dash-mounted screen, though your bank manager may be pleased to hear that it only works while the car is stationary.
